The Garden Girls

Our latest field trip took us to a lavender farm in Mooresville. We enjoyed lavender iced teas with our sack lunches and purchased other lavender based items from the store. In August we will go to Beasleys Orchard in Danville for you-pick flowers and maybe some early apples. We’ll have lunch at a local eatery that is TBD. Join us Thursday,August 14 at the clubhouse. We will meet at 9:30 am to car pool to the orchard.

My August garden tip for you is to leave a patch of grass in your yard to grow without mowing for the lightning bugs to shelter. We have done this in our backyard where we keep a “bug tent” for us to enjoy nature and not get eaten by mosquitoes. In the early evening we’ve watched over 2 dozen lightening bugs rise from the taller grass and begin their “show”. It’s magical. See you in August.
